over 16,000 companies

The iPoint Conflict Minerals Platform (iPCMP) was launched in September 2012. The web-based on-demand software solution supports manufacturing companies in collecting, managing, aggregating, and reporting Conflict Minerals information across their entire supply chain, thus meeting the requirements of their customers and the regulatory authorities.

With the focus on the socially responsible sourcing of raw materials and the objective of bringing peace and well-being to conflict-affected regions, the Conflict Minerals legislation makes an important contribution to supporting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and more transparent supply chains. iPCMP offers a solution for the entire supply chain and allows companies to meet legal challenges

while also demonstrating their CSR: Building on the leading reporting standards of the EICC and GeSI (Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition, Global e-Sustainability Initiative), the iPCMP optimizes and simplifies reporting processes. By enabling companies to collect and aggregate all relevant information from all their suppliers, they can document their Conflict Minerals status seamlessly.

Legal background USA

The legal basis is created by Section 1502 of the US Dodd-Frank Act (2010) and the related Final Rule of the US Securities and Exchange Commission SEC (2012). According to this, publicly listed US companies need to disclose annually the origin of certain raw materials (gold, tin, tungsten and tantalum) in their products. The first reporting year began on January 1, 2013, with the first reports due on June 2, 2014, for the 2013 calendar year. The aim of the legislation is to put an end to violent conflicts and human rights violations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and adjoining countries, which are directly or indirectly financed through the mining and trading of certain raw materials (Conflict Minerals). Since the US companies directly affected by this law are passing their reporting obligations through their global supplychains, the law has a significant international impact. According to the SEC, 280,000 companies worldwide are affected.

EU

The European Union is currently preparing its own Conflict Minerals legislation and released a draft proposal on March 5, 2014. The minerals covered by this regulation do not deviate from the four minerals and their ores included in the US legislation. However, the geographical scope is wider than that of the US legislation and is not limited solely to Central Africa ins-

tead covering “conflict-affected and high-risk areas” in general. As part of the impact assessment process, the Directorate-General for Trade of the European Commission charged iPoint-systems with analyzing the impacts of a possible European Conflict Minerals initiative. iPoint’s study was published with the release of the EU’s draft proposal on March 5, 2014.

The standard cross-industry solution The iPCMP was developed in close cooperation with the Automotive Industry Action Group AIAG and a working group with representatives of member companies of this industry association – including OEMs such as Bosch, Ford and the Chrysler Group. However, the iPCMP is a crossindustry solution, used by customers from various industry sectors.

As well as the automotive industry, customers from the electronics, aerospace, mechanical engineering, shipbuilding, textile and clothing industries are represented, including smaller companies with less than 50 employees as well as S&P 500 companies with several thousand employees. iPoint offers suitable licenses depending on a company’s size and reporting
