Virtual Vision: Every student at Jenks Public Schools will have online learning options to meet their self-determined educational goals. I.

Enrollment a. Students enrolled in good standing at Jenks High School may register for up to five online classes during a semester as part of their regular six-period class schedule b. Virtual School courses are listed in the Course Planning Guide and enrollment cards are available in the Guidance Office c. The student’s counselor will receive the enrollment card and enroll the student on PowerSchool d. If the requested course or section is not on PowerSchool, the counselor will email Eric VanZee to update PowerSchool e. After the student schedule is on PowerSchool the counselor will forward the Virtual School enrollment card to the Virtual School Coordinator f. The student will receive an online enrollment card at their first class meeting g. Pro-rated Enrollment – students enrolling after the first four weeks of the semester, in addition to the one regular JHS class, will be allowed to enroll in online courses according to the following schedule:* i. After Sept. 12 – 4 classes ii. After Oct. 3 – 3 classes iii. After Oct. 31 – 2 classes iv. After Nov. 21 – 1 class v. After Jan. 30 – 4 classes vi. After Feb. 27 – 3 classes vii. After April 3 – 2 classes viii. After May 1 – 1 class *Adjustments may be made on a case-by-case basis g. Students will receive a card confirming Virtual School enrollment after they sign a student contract agreeing to rules and procedures

Attendance a. Attendance is recorded by scanning into the computer in the Virtual Center – in case of questions about this record the online login attendance log will be used for verification b. All students will report to the Virtual Center for their assigned periods until notified by their instructor they are not required to do so c. Students should stay in the Virtual Center for the entire period d. Even if not required to be in the Virtual Center during their assigned periods, students on campus must be in the Virtual Center, HS 6 Commons, Math & Science Commons or Media Center e. Instructors may also require in-person sessions as needed

If a student’s Actual Grade falls below 70% they must report to the Virtual Center or the teacher’s classroom until notified otherwise by their instructor(s) g. If a student fails to appear at the Virtual Center as directed by the instructor, they will be assigned a D-Hall by the instructor h. If the student appears at the Virtual Center, but does not work on their course as recorded on the online attendance log, they will be assigned a D-Hall by the instructor i. If they fail to appear at D-Hall, or they have a second occurrence of (g.) or (h.), then the attendance principal is alerted for counseling j. If students wish to leave campus i. Must have a “Jenks Virtual School Parent/Guardian Consent Form” signed by a parent/guardian on file ii. After 1st period and before 6th period check out through the appropriate attendance office iii. Have online enrollment card available to show campus police or other authority k. If the student questions an absence recorded on PowerSchool they should contact their instructor as soon as possible to clarify the record l. High School students may take either the first or second lunch period, but may not be in the cafeteria during the Freshman Academy lunch period Use of Virtual Center a. Virtual Center rooms are for Virtual students only b. Students will bring their Chromebooks, but may use school PCs or personal laptops and tablets according to the school electronic device policies c. Food and drink is limited to finger snacks and drinks with lids – NO BREAKFAST, NO LUNCH (Students can scan in and sit outside with their Chromebooks) d. Students will scan in upon entering and out upon leaving whether or not attendance is required e. Students will restrict conversation and noise, giving all students an opportunity to be productive f. Some rooms of the Virtual Center may be restricted to an particular class or designated quiet areas with no talking g. Technology is for academic purposes. Students playing video games or excessively using email, Facebook, Twitter or other social media will be asked to leave h. If disruptive, students will be asked to leave and face disciplinary action Grades a. Weekly progress reports will be posted on PowerSchool b. At the teacher’s discretion, additional assignments may be required and factored into the grade assigned by the courseware c. Upon completion of online coursework, students must take the online final in person in the Virtual Center or other area designated by the instructor or Virtual Coordinator d. If the student is not 100% complete by Finals week, a determination will be made if they are eligible to take the final i. Student must be listed as actively enrolled

ii. The RELATIVE GRADE, a calculation of the student’s progress and the overall scope of the course, must be a minimum of 60% iii. To take the final, the student’s remaining coursework will be bypassed or cancelled so the program will prompt the final review and final iv. Once the final has been completed, the bypasses will be removed and the resulting grade will be the student’s final grade Student Responsibilities a. Email the designated instructor as soon as they begin work on their online class for instructions on maintaining student-teacher communication b. Log onto their online course(s) on a regular basis and maintaining progress in order to complete on schedule c. Students should monitor their own progress on the online courseware and PowerSchool d. Any technical problems or discrepancies between online courseware and PowerSchool should be reported as soon as possible to their instructor or the Virtual School Coordinator e. Use of the Virtual Center and school equipment will be restricted to academic purposes Teacher Responsibilities a. Check online course for alignment with Jenks content standards i. Semester online content should approximately match regular classes ii. Send changes to Coordinator to create course template b. Provide class syllabus online or on paper c. Contact students face-to-face as they begin the online course and communicate expectations regarding communication and progress of the online courses d. Respond to email or phone enquiries within 24 hours during the week e. Office hours on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday after school for 30 minutes f. Use the Virtual Center scan record to monitor attendance i. Daily email will give period-by-period attendance ii. Per (V. Attendance) enter absences in PowerSchool g. Transfer grades weekly from online courseware to PowerSchool i. In Edgenuity, “Actual Grade” will be used h. Assign D-Halls as outlined in (II. Attendance) i. If assigned to the Virtual Center during the school day i. Instructor will engage the students in the assigned online courses as needed ii. Be available to online students as an academic resource/advisor iii. Monitor student activity in the Virtual Center 1. Enforce Virtual Center rules 2. Make sure all students scan in and out j. Communicate with Virtual Coordinator on any issues regarding courseware or student progress and conduct k. Provide information to Assistant Principals and Counselors on any attendance or discipline issues

Coordinator Responsibilities a. Set up student logins, assign online courses and distribute individual online schedule cards showing assigned virtual courses and class periods b. Provide initial orientation to students on online courseware c. Oversee the Virtual Center i. Coordinate enrollment with Guidance Office 1. Set up courses and online semester calendar 2. Insure students are enrolled in correct course/period 3. Insure PowerSchool reflects correct course/period 4. Counsel with students on Virtual School options ii. Opening, closing rooms each day 1. Unlocking, locking rooms 2. Make sure all equipment plugged in 3. Check laptop cabinets 4. Trash taken out iii. Insure technology (Internet, PCs) functions properly 1. Request TMAs when necessary 2. Insure Virtual Center computers update regularly 3. Keep inventory of headsets for student use 4. Order replacement equipment if necessary iv. Maintain scan station and software to record student attendance 1. Initiate the scan spreadsheet each week 2. Check each morning to insure scan station in service 3. Troubleshoot issues 4. Transfer daily report from scan record to teacher email v. Troubleshoot technical issues with courseware 1. Use administrative software to correct issue 2. Contact Customer Support if unable to correct vi. Provide necessary instructional aide if primary teacher unavailable 1. Notify instructor of quiz and test retakes granted 2. No bypasses without instructor input vii. Oversee overall student behavior in Virtual Center area viii. Coordinate with Virtual School Instructors 1. Provide opportunities for professional development 2. Monitor communications between instructors and students 3. Provide instructional assistance to students during periods instructors are not in Virtual Center ix. Coordinate with principals 1. Refer students not responding to their responsibilities for coursework and attendance

2. Help find online solutions for schedule conflicts and needed credits 3. Provide input for staffing d. Attend meetings with the TechEd Consortium for updates on Edgenuity courseware e. Participate in professional development f. Stay current on technical and political issues involving online schools Other Information a. O Hour, 7th Hour – Any courses offered outside the standard 6-period school day must be approved by the Principal b. Courses 8th grade & Under – Students with IEPs or other needs may enroll in courses below the high school level with approval of their supervising principal c. Non-credit coursework – Some students enrolled in classes such as AVID or ESL may be assigned coursework from the online courseware i. Credit and grading for such arrangements will be at the discretion of their assigned class instructor ii. Student records will be separate on Edgenuity from the regular Virtual School iii. Teachers will have limited access to their students only d. Moving from regular classes to online – If a student moves from a traditional JHS class to the same course online, the recorded grades for classwork will be transferred and adjustments made to the online course to reflect the student’s work in the regular class e. Moving from online course to regular class – Online instructor will provide progress report to receiving teacher to enter on PowerSchool f. Transferring Online Courses Out – If a student transfers from Jenks High School to the Alternative Center, ROARS or other program, their current courses may be transferred into their new program with approval of that program’s supervisor g. Transferring Online Courses In – If a student has ongoing coursework from another Jenks program or school utilizing Edgenuity courseware, the course may be transferred into Virtual School with the permission of the program administrator or principal of the student’s previous program or school h. Homebound – Students may be enrolled in Virtual classes at the discretion of their principal i. D-Hall, In-House suspensions – Students are expected to continue their online work in both D-Hall and In-House j. Out-of-school suspensions – At the discretion of the principal, students not allowed on campus may continue their coursework
