Fellow geoscientist, It is with great pleasure that the Organizing Committee and the Brazilian Geophysical Society Directory Board welcome all the attendees of the 13th International Congress of the Brazilian Geophysical Society & EXPOGEf. The city of Rio de Janeiro, with its exuberant landscape and warm people, is once again the place chosen to host this meaningful event. In the SulAmérica Convention Center all their available space is, this year, being used to provide a more comfortable experience for the participants. Present to the 13th Congress are the co-societies SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) and EAGE (the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers). A selection of short courses and workshops, along with more than 400 papers, have been put together by the Technical Committee to provide you with ample choice within the five days of the event (precongress courses and workshops and congress presentations). Have a look at the official program and plan your activities for the exciting days ahead. You will meet with professionals and colleagues whom will be presenting their latest developments and findings and have the chance to discuss your own ideas and projects. The Exposition is awaiting your visit too. The place for doing business, EXPOGEf is hosting a large number of companies that will be showcasing their latest products and services and their most successful projects. Representatives of industry, academic and government areas will be present, seeking out opportunities and renewing contacts. Wednesday night is the time to take a break of the presentations and discussions and engage in our already traditional closing dinner. This year we will meet for this occasion at the Piraquê Club, overseeing the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and just close to the foothill of the Corcovado mountain with the Christ The Redeemer statue. Be there and enjoy a unique night sight. Not all is work. Rio de Janeiro offers many attractions and places to go. Relax after a day’s work strolling along the well-lit beaches’ sidewalks, having an idle time on the many bars that line the seashore avenues or enjoying local cuisine restaurants. Rio’s night bursts with options. If you prefer, extend your stay and discover the natural wonders the city and surroundings have in stock. It is our goal to make your participation in our event a memorable one. Have a great time!

SBGf Awards / Prêmios SBGf João Esteves Filho (in memoriam)

Alcides Barbosa Award

Expogef Rio 2013 On behalf of the Brazilian Geophysical Society (SBGf) and the Organizing Committee of the 13th International Congress of the Brazilian Geophysical Society, it is a great pleasure to extend to all participants, exhibitors and sponsors a warm welcome. This conference highlights the importance of international cooperation in all areas of Geophysics and we are certain that your stay here in Rio de Janeiro will be as rewarding on the professional aspect as on the social one. In addition to the business aspect, the objective of this conference is to promote the science of geophysics, foster the common scientific interests of geophysicists and to maintain a high professional standing among our members on their cost-efficient applications of geophysical methods in the exploration of natural resources. The technical program includes about 500 technical presentations, held in eight oral simultaneous sessions and three days of poster presentations. In the exhibition hall, we count on the expertise of more than 65 manufacturing and service companies, oil companies and scientific associated societies, displaying equipment at the forefront of technology and the industry’s most innovative solutions. We are pleased to welcome you to Rio de Janeiro, your presence will be very important for us. Carlos Belem, Neri Boz and Simplicio Freitas Expogef & Sponsorship Committee
