BMW Navigator V Compared to the Navigator IV

Navigator Comparison – Trip Planning Shaping Points: A point inserted into a “Trip” that causes the Navigator to take you through a specific point on the map without having the unit alert the user of that point – basically it shapes the trip on the roads you want to take or the points you want to pass by.

Blue Dots in the images above are shaping points.

Navigator Comparison – Trip Planning So what is a “Trip”? How does it compare to a “Route”?

In the Navigator IV You could plan a route that consisted of up to 250 points points off road. Long g routes often had to be broken up p into on road or 1200 p multiple shorter routes to cover the same distance. In the Navigator V a new technology was used which is called a “Trip.” A Trip consists of up to 30 Routes Routes. Each route can have one via point and 125 shaping points. When the unit calculates a trip it is actually calculating each segment called a “route” as the Navigator IV knew them. This allows the unit To calculate and recalculate faster, give the rider better routing during the use of the Navigator – and allow the user to skip segments of the trip if needed. The largest benefit of the “trip” technology is the ability to create long more detailed motorcycle rides than could be done in the Navigator IV IV.
